Butterfly Grove in Goleta February 2013

A friend told us about this amazing butterfly grove where butterflies come migrate to/from every year and it was amazing to see up close! The best time to go is actually in January when there are tons of them so we were a little on the late side but even still there were tons and tons of them! Such a fun outing.

It's hard to tell but those dark clumps you see high up in the trees are ALL butterflies clumped together!

They had docents there which made it really fun because they were able to find a butterfly on the ground so the girls could see and hold it up close.

She showed them how to lick your finger, and rub it on your nose so that the butterfly would sit on your nose. Mia was the only brave enough soul to try it. :)

Maddi and Ella opted for the hand option!

The girls learned how to pick the butterfly up gently by the wings to move it.

Macee was itching to get her little hands on that butterfly. :) I love her face here!

Another cool thing was that the walking trail that led through the butterfly grove also continued on until you hit the coast. So beautiful!

After the butterflies Maddi got so excited running down a hill and she tripped and skidded face down the rest of the way! It got worse as the days went on poor thing...but she was a trooper! :)

All of us!
