Makeovers and Painting

Treated to creative makeovers by their friends. They felt very glamorous. They long for the day when their parents MIGHT let them out of the house with makeup on. haha

One of my most favorite ways to help out in the girls' classrooms is by teaching Aritst of the Month lessons once a month.  At the beginning of the school year we studied Winslow Homer and we loved his seascape paintings so much that we wanted to try our own at home! I created little art binders for the girls to have a place to keep their finished paintings and I had aspirations to do this EVERY month, however the reality of life often strays from the ideals we have in our heads :) and I think (now as I write this 3 months from the school year ENDING) this was the ONLY time we actually did this but it's a memory I cherish nonetheless. :)

I love this quote from Anne of Avonlea where Anne is talking with Mrs. Allan about her upcoming summer break after her first year of teaching:

"I hope you'll have a good time, Anne. You've worked very hard this past year and you have succeeded."

"Oh, I don't know. I've come so far short in so many things. I haven't done what I meant to do when I began to teach last fall. I haven't lived up to my ideals."

"None of us ever do," said Mrs. Allan with a sigh. "But then, Anne, you know what Lowell says, `Not failure but low aim is crime.' We must have ideals and try to live up to them, even if we never quite succeed. Life would be a sorry business without them. With them it's grand and great. Hold fast to your ideals, Anne."

Soccer

Soccer Season

We had our first soccer experience this fall when Maddi and Mia each joined a team. They were struggling to find enough coaches so I talked Lance into coaching Maddi's team and it ended up being a great experience for both of them. We were glad to get our Saturday's back when it was all over but had a lot of fun spending the day at the field while it lasted. They were both quite excited about the game and ran their little hearts out. We loved seeing them work so hard and put their all into it.

This is Maddi's team, the "Blasters" ...she is #7

Go Maddi! The tunnel at the end was always the best part.

Mia's team, "Purple Lightening Girls"

I don't have many action shots from Mia's games. I think the 2 year difference in age makes a big difference on the soccer field and while we found ourselves laughing and smiling the whole way through Maddi's games, we were doing a lot more nail biting, and edge of our seats sitting (or standing), and cheering during Mia's games...hence the lack of pictures!
