Ellas Swollen Face July 5th 2015

"Ellas Swollen Face" seemed like the only fitting way to title this post, because that's how we all refer to this incident when remembering it. We had a great Fourth of July but by the end of the night Ella was complaining of pain on one side of her face/neck. We thought maybe it was an ear infection  but we were all tired so we put her to bed. She was up all throughout the night with pain. Sometime during the night we were coherent enough to realize that she was swollen on one side of her face. We started asking her if she had gotten a bee sting while on the field at the firework show. She couldn't remember anything like that happening. So weird. By Sunday morning she had a fever and was complaining of pain from her ear all the way down her throat. Lance had checked her ears and ruled out an ear infection so we thought maybe it was strep throat. We asked a doctor friend to come over to get his thoughts on whether or not it was strep throat or not. He didn't seem overly concerned  and didn't think it was strep throat. Maybe just a viral thing. By the end of that night her face had swollen so much it was hard to recognize her. She had a high fever and was in so much pain so we ended up at the ER. Why do these things always happen on the weekends?! After a couple hours and lots of tests, and shot of antibiotic, she walked out with a diagnosis of salivary gland infection probably from a blocked salivary duct. Definitely the first time encountering this type of illness. And one of the treatments was to suck on sour lemon candies! Who knew! Super glad my Mom was in town to help take care of Max as I went back and forth to the hospital to feed him inbetween tests. And especially grateful it was nothing more serious. Ella gave us a good scare but so happy all ended well and her poor swollen face went back to normal after a couple days.
